PLEASE REFER TO MY CV FOR A LIST OF EXHIBITIONS AND PRESS

Coming from a material science background, my work deals primarily with issues regarding science, iconography, and identity. Selected projects are below.

My first series, Altered States, is inspired by nanoscience and quantum mechanics, and deals with deconstructing iconographic images and enabling the transformation of materials to new states: bringing airiness into solid, dense or heavy objects, and creating solid bodies out of fluids and light. In this way my work attempts to alter the viewer's perceptions of the state of materials and to question how our learned biases affect our ability to see all possible modalities. The title of this series, "Altered States" is an homage to the film of the same name by Ken Russell that was a great inspiration.

BODYidentity, depicts the body through both intimate and clinical lenses as I seek to better understand the ingredients that result in each individual's sense of body and identity. Using the (literal) framework of a mannequin, the body is shown in its various technical compositions, allowing the viewers to reflect on how they construct their own sense of self. The human makeup is presented as a breakdown of molecules, elements, matter vs space, and a bacterial landscape. Through these very clinical definitions, all human individuality becomes removed. Also at play is the notion of portraiture as a medium for presentation. By creating the work as portraits, these compositions become a primary descriptor of humanity.
